John Crane presents emissions-saving equipment at ADIPEC 2026

John Crane is presenting sealing and digital monitoring technologies at ADIPEC 2026 in Abu Dhabi, highlighting applications that it says have reduced nitrogen consumption by up to 80% and emissions by up to 40%.
The Smiths Group business is using the exhibition, which runs from 2 to 5 November at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, to demonstrate equipment and maintenance services intended to improve reliability while limiting environmental impacts. It also cites an industrial application in which monitoring helped avert approximately $4 million in production losses.
The figures represent outcomes from individual applications rather than guaranteed performance across installations. Their relevance to other facilities will depend on equipment configuration, operating conditions and the nature of the emissions or failures being addressed.
Among the exhibits is the Type 93AX coaxial separation seal, designed to reduce the nitrogen required to protect rotating equipment. John Crane says it can lower consumption by as much as 80% against conventional radial separation seals, potentially reducing the resources needed for continuous compressor operation.
The company is also displaying its Type 28XP dry gas seal, which it says has delivered emissions reductions of up to 40% in demonstrated applications. Dry gas seals are used in compressors to limit the escape of process gases while maintaining reliable operation under demanding pressure and rotational conditions.
A separate focus is John Crane Sense Turbo, a monitoring system incorporating sensors within dry gas seals. The technology provides information about conditions inside compressors, helping maintenance teams investigate developing problems without relying solely on external measurements or waiting for equipment to fail.
John Crane says the system helped an operator of liquefied natural gas equipment avoid eight days of downtime, with the resulting production losses estimated at approximately $4 million. The case illustrates the financial exposure associated with interruptions to critical machinery, although the company has not presented that saving as a typical outcome for customers.
Amjad Alqaqaa, John Crane’s vice-president for the Middle East, Africa and India, said operators were facing simultaneous demands to improve reliability, control expenditure and reduce their environmental impact.
“The results we are bringing to ADIPEC show what is possible when proven equipment, digital insight and lifecycle expertise are applied to the right operational challenges,” he said.
The company’s exhibition programme extends beyond individual sealing products to equipment condition monitoring, filtration and services supporting the operating life of industrial assets. Its Sense Monitor system provides wireless vibration and condition monitoring, intended to identify changes in rotating machinery that could warrant inspection or maintenance.
Other exhibits include diamond seal face technology, designed to extend seal life, and the Type 8628VL multiphase lubricating pipeline seal for ethane and ethylene operations. The company is also featuring fuel gas filtration equipment intended to remove oil and particulate contamination, which can affect the performance of sensitive machinery.
These technologies address different sources of equipment risk. Contamination, seal deterioration and insufficient visibility into machinery condition can contribute to maintenance demands or production interruptions. Monitoring data may support decisions on when to intervene, but it does not eliminate the need for inspection, engineering assessment or repairs.
John Crane is presenting its Performance Plus service framework alongside the hardware. The programme encompasses reliability engineering, maintenance, repair, upgrades, retrofits and training, with the aim of helping customers manage equipment performance and ownership costs throughout an asset’s working life.
The company operates more than 200 manufacturing, sales and service facilities across over 50 countries. Its network supports customers in energy and process industries where compressors, pumps and associated equipment are often expected to operate continuously.
The exhibition follows a six-year reliability agreement announced in August covering 1,833 pumps at a Bahrain refinery. That programme is intended to address recurring mechanical seal failures and improve the predictability of maintenance expenditure across existing and modernised equipment.
John Crane is part of London-listed Smiths Group, whose activities include industrial technologies for energy and other processing industries. Its products include mechanical seals, seal support systems, couplings, filtration equipment and diagnostic services for rotating machinery.
The event also features discussions on practical approaches to industrial decarbonisation. Company specialists are available at Stand 3115 in Hall 3 of ADIPEC to discuss operating requirements, equipment reliability, emissions performance and maintenance arrangements with energy and industrial customers.
